What to check before blaming Meta Ads

A practical diagnosis for service-business campaigns covering delivery, offer, creative, page or form, tracking and sales follow-up.

THE SHORT ANSWER

When Meta campaigns underperform, first locate the broken stage. The problem may be delivery, message, conversion path, tracking or follow-up—and each requires a different response.

Start with the symptom, not the platform

“Meta is not working” can describe very different situations: the campaign is not spending, people are not responding, forms are not completing, leads are unsuitable or the sales team cannot convert them. Treating those as one problem leads to random changes.

The six-stage check

  1. Delivery

Check spend, reach, frequency, placement, learning status and whether the audience is large enough for the budget.

  2. Offer

Ask whether the value, price context and next step are clear to the intended customer.

  3. Creative

Review whether the message earns attention and whether each format has enough evidence to judge.

  4. Form or landing page

Look for mismatch, friction, weak proof, mobile issues and questions that do not support qualification.

  5. Tracking

Verify the event fires once, on success, and that the destination actually receives the enquiry.

  6. Follow-up

Check speed, ownership, contact attempts, conversation notes and the reasons leads do not progress.

Match the action to the evidence

If delivery is weak, revisit budget, audience and auction conditions. If clicks are healthy but conversion is weak, review the continuity between ad and destination. If lead volume is acceptable but quality is poor, inspect the promise, qualification and follow-up record before changing the algorithm.

A platform diagnosis is useful only when it tells you which decision to make next.

What not to do

  • Do not rebuild the account after one weak day.
  • Do not change audience, creative, form and budget together if you need to learn.
  • Do not call clicks, messages and submitted forms the same result.
  • Do not raise budget until lead delivery and ownership are working.

Questions people usually ask

How long should I wait before judging a campaign?

There is no universal number. Use spend relative to your expected conversion cost, delivery stability and enough observations to avoid reacting to noise.

Is creative usually the problem?

Creative is important, but it is one stage. Strong creative cannot repair an unclear offer, broken form or slow follow-up.
